Movie Showing “Cesar Chavez”

Directed and produced by Diego Luna, “Cesar Chavez” is a 2014 Mexican-American biographical film about the life of American labor-leader, Cesar Chavez (Michael Peña), who co-founded United Farm Workers. John Malkovich also stars in the film, portraying the owner of a large industrial grape farm who seeks to defeat Chavez’s organizing efforts. The film premiered at the Berlinale Special Galas section of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival and has received positive reviews. Enjoy delicious freshly made popcorn, the company of friends and a chance to discuss with us whether or not you liked the film.
Cuentos de Aztlan (Tales of the Homeland) with Angel Vigil

Angel Vigil is the author of six award-winning books on Hispanic and Western arts and culture. He is also a successful performer, theatre director and educator. He acts as the Colorado State Heritage Artist for Hispanic storytelling, specializing in the traditional stories of the Hispanic Southwest and Mexico. He has performed in a variety of settings, most notably, in the National Storytelling Festival, TED Talk, Keepers of the World Festival, the Kansas City Ballet and more. Angel performs stories from his award-winning books: “The Corn Woman,” “Stories and Legends from the Hispanic Southwest,” “The Eagle on the Cactus,” “Traditional Stories from New Mexico and Riding Tall in the Saddle” and “The Cowboy Fact Book.” This gifted performer ends his storytelling shows with this heartfelt closing: “So I give these stories to you with a saying I remember from my own childhood – Buenos.”
Cuéntame un Cuento / Tell Me A Story – Writer’s Workshop with author, Denise Chávez

Renowned author, Denise Chávez, author of the 2019 One Book One Valley (OBOV) selection, The Last of the Menu Girls (La Última de las Muchachas del Menú) will be hosting a Writer’s Workshop. The workshop is entitled, “Cuéntame un Cuento/Tell Me a Story”, a hands-on storytelling workshop.Please RSVP by April 1 to Sandy Rivera, 970-479-2331 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost of the workshop is $10, due at the time of registration. Attendance is limited to 20 participants so early registration is encouraged.

This is event is the final event in this year’s One Book One Valley Community Read. Meet Denise Chavez, Author of the 2019 selected title“The Last of the Menu Girls”. Join the discussion at Colorado Mountain College’s Edwards Campus. This event will be a discussion of the book and answer questions from those gathered for the event.
